Pending prompts stay on the screen after being fired #4564

Description

@doctor-phil

Describe the bug

If I enter a prompt while the agent is running, it pops up as queued, with (pending · ctrl+c to cancel) next to it.

Then when the prompt clears and the steering command is injected, the pending should go away, the prompt becomes colored differently (e.g. purple for autopilot or blue in plan mode, etc). Then the agent responds to the new prompt.

However, in recent updates, this does still happen but the pending prompt remains on the screen. Even after the model has responded to the prompt. If I then put in another pending prompt, it stays on the screen too along with the other one. The only way to clear this seems to be to wait for the whole turn to finish without steering.

Affected version

GitHub Copilot CLI 1.0.81-7

Steps to reproduce the behavior

  1. Start any long-running prompt with multiple steps
  2. While the model is thinking/working, enter a new pending "steering" prompt
  3. Wait for the steering prompt to be accepted and the model to respond to the steering
    That is enough to reproduce; continuing to steer in this way, before the turn ends, will result in a large queue of pending messages at the bottom of the screen even if they've all been processed.

Expected behavior

The pending steering prompts should disappear from the bottom of the screen after being processed by the model
