Return a result instead of raising on network failures - #21

Fixes #20. Previously a network problem crashed the caller with an exception instead of setting `was_able_to_verify` to `False` as per the README. Now both API calls return a result with a `request_failed` or `request_failed_due_to_timeout` error code, matching what the other SDKs do.
