Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
I was wondering if I could attempt to implement a CLAHE transform into the MONAI library or if one is being worked. Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization is widely used in medical 2D imaging, especially Ophthalmology. While other libraries do have implementations and is possible to do via Lambda transformation, perhaps a tried and tested transform could be developed for MONAI
Describe the solution you'd like
I imagine it would fall under an Intensity Transform and follow the pattern set there. Both Vanilla and Dictionary
Describe alternatives you've considered
It is entirely possible to do this as a lambda transform but with more and more people utilizing MONAI, it would be a gentler introduction for a common transform.
Additional context
My First issue/feature request--I am actually planning to do the coding, but have no contributed much to open source, so probably lots of questions (I did try to RTFM)
That is outstanding! If you wanted to wrap that filter (using itk or sitk) into a MONAI transform, it would be greatly appreciated. It is a common processing applied to mammography and others as you noted.
Hi @aylward@rdslater — checking in since it's been a few weeks. @rdslater, are you still planning to wrap the ITK/SimpleITK adaptive histogram equalization filter into a MONAI transform? Happy to pick it up if not — no worries either way, just want to avoid duplicate work.
Hi! I'm interested in contributing to MONAI and would love to help implement the adaptive histogram equalization transform discussed here. I noticed there was already interest from other contributors, so I wanted to check whether anyone is actively working on it before starting. I'd be happy to coordinate and take on a specific part if useful. Thank you!

ITK is bundled with MONAI and includes the power law adaptive histogram equalization filter that emulates clahe and other filters. See https://simpleitk.org/doxygen/latest/html/classitk_1_1simple_1_1AdaptiveHistogramEqualizationImageFilter.html
and

Would wrapping it into a MONAI transform accomplish what you want?

Yes that would be fine. (TBH I was just trying to get started contributing on something)

With my job search this has fallen to the back burner and to be honest I have not been working it. @mdtasnimulhoque feel free to take a crack.

Hi! Just checking if @mdtasnimulhoque is working on this issue. if not, I'd be more than happy to write the wrapper.
