🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Limit the forwarding claim to the supported positioning props.
SelectContentProps accepts Base UI’s alignItemWithTrigger prop, but SelectContent fixes that option to false on the regular positioner. A caller who sets the prop cannot enable item alignment as this description implies. Describe the forwarded subset instead of claiming that Select.Content passes the Base UI Positioner props. Select.Content passes every Base UI Positioner prop to the positioner. Sidebar takes side and data-side; position stays as a deprecated alias. Drawer.Content reads side from Drawer.

suggestion: alignItemWithTrigger is still part of SelectContentProps but isn't pulled out here, so it falls into ...props and reaches the popup.
Passing it logs React's "does not recognize the alignItemWithTrigger prop on a DOM element" warning in both paths (main did this too).
Until #952 wires it up, could we Omit it from the type or drop it here? That would make "no positioner props reach the popup" fully true, and it pairs with CodeRabbit's note on the docs line.

suggestion: This test checks that the positioner gets the prop, but not the bug the PR fixes, which is props reaching the popup. On main, collisionPadding={8} renders as a collisionpadding attribute on select-content, so one extra assertion would catch a regression:
| <Select.Content positionMethod='fixed'> | |
| <Select.Item value='apple'>Apple</Select.Item> | |
| </Select.Content> | |

suggestion: side is gone from the type, but at runtime it still falls into ...props.
I tried <Drawer.Content side="left"> (as JS or a loosely typed spread would): the drawer opens from the right and the popup gets a stray side="left" DOM attribute.
Could we pull side out before the spread (for example side?: never with a @deprecated Set side on Drawer. note), and maybe add a dev-only console.warn like timeline.tsx does?

question: Now that side is gone from Content here, is there a test that renders <Drawer side='left'> and checks the popup gets styles['drawerPopup-left']?
The class now comes from context, which is the path this PR changes. If there isn't one, could we add it?

question: The position prop keeps working as a deprecated alias, but data-position goes away right now.
That means CSS targeting it breaks even for apps that change nothing.
Would it be worth also setting data-position={side} during the deprecation window? Totally fine to skip if we want a clean break, since the upgrading page calls it out.

nit: Could we add a case for when both props are set? side wins today (I checked), and a test keeps that precedence from flipping by accident.

suggestion: Base UI types collisionPadding as either a number or a per-side object, with a default of 5. Could we match that here so the table shows the full option?

suggestion: docs/V1-migration.md still shows <Drawer.Content side="right" showCloseButton> (line 1709), which won't type-check after this PR, and <Sidebar ... position="left"> (line 1805).
Could we update both examples in this PR so people following that guide don't hit the error?
Summary
Select.Contentpasses every Base UI Positioner prop to the positioner:alignOffset, anchor, arrowPadding, collisionAvoidance, collisionBoundary, collisionPadding, disableAnchorTracking, positionMethodandsticky, plusside, alignandsideOffsetas before. It used to pass only those three, and the rest reached the popup element. This works in both the plain and the autocomplete path.Sidebartakessideand setsdata-side, asChatPaneland the popups do.positionstill works as a deprecated alias.useSidebar()returnsside, and keepspositionas a deprecated field.Drawerhas oneside, on the root.Drawer.Contentreads it from the root and no longer takesside.Docs: Select props table, Sidebar side demo and props, Drawer demos and playground, and a new section on the upgrading page.
Breaking: the Sidebar
data-positionattribute is nowdata-side, andsideonDrawer.Contentis removed. See the upgrading page.I have followed the pull request section of the contributing guide.
Decisions where the proposal was silent:
Select.Contenttakes out the Positioner props by name and sends them to the positioner. Every other prop (className,data-*,aria-*, handlers, ref) still goes to the popup, so FilterChip, DataView, Calendar and ColorPicker keep theirdata-variantanddata-sloton the popup.useSidebar()keepspositionnext toside, so code that reads the hook does not break.Skipped because another open PR covers it:
showArrow: feat: [toast, popover] add anchored toasts and popover arrow #950 adds it, defaultfalse.alignItemWithTrigger: fix: [select] mark the selected item and allow item alignment #952 forwards it and addsSelect.ItemText, which the alignment needs. It stays fixed tofalsehere.Checks run:
pnpm lint, pnpm exec tsc --noEmitinpackages/react, andpnpm test:apsara(197 files, 3736 tests). I compared the docs pages in a local dev server with main (a local main server and the deployed docs): Select, Sidebar and Drawer in light and dark, and the Select popups in FilterChip, ColorPicker and Calendar in light. Popup placement, Sidebar borders and handle, and Drawer edges match.
