CircleCI has not reported a status on main since 2026-09-09 (last green ci/circleci: minimal_core on 8e54951). Pipelines are rejected with "Config version 2 has reached end of life. Please upgrade to version 2.1" as part of CircleCI's config compilation breaking changes.

Changes to .circleci/config.yml:

• version: 2 → version: 2.1
• remove the version key under workflows, which 2.1 doesn't use
• replace the deprecated image-less machine: enabled: true with machine: image: ubuntu-2404:current

The job itself (minimal_core, running GenericContainerRuleTest) is unchanged.
