feat(web): design pass 4: one retry per list page, readable error rows, aligned log chips - #1826
Design pass 4, stacked on #1825 (pass 3). Each pass works through the previous judges' issues, then two independent agents check it blind: one scores a rubric, the other hunts regressions. Icons and data colours are untouched.

The regression hunt caught two problems in the first build. On Errors, exception type names truncated ("PaymentDeclinedErr…"). On Logs, the rail's retry link went away while the main panel still had no "Try again". Both are fixed, and a recheck confirmed every changed page is better.
Changes
Carried from #1825. Pass 3 merged before its two review fixes landed, so they ride here:
The overview strip's "Try again" retries the failed facets read again. Before, it sent a reload that skipped failed reads.
Below md, the GCP sub-line carries "idle, still billed", because the Status cell is hidden there.
One retry per list page. Every filter rail now shows one quiet "Filters unavailable" line, without its own retry link, when the page's main panel already shows the same failure: Replays, Agent Sessions, Releases, Web Analytics, Containers, Kubernetes and the Cloudflare zone. Services, Traces and Logs main panels get "Try again". Reload refreshes a failed read on those pages.
Before
After
Errors: the exception type never truncates on wide rows; only the muted detail after it gives way. The Service column fits "query-engine".
Before
After
Logs: every row's attribute chips end on one right edge. Rows without a trace link used to keep a narrower action slot.

Verification
bun run --cwd apps/web typecheck passes, and oxlint is clean.
Targeted Vitest: 559 tests across ui, errors, traces, services, replays, agent sessions, releases, analytics, infra and Cloudflare.
…e GCP status
- Overview cards under the outage strip keep auto-retrying but draw no button; the strip's Try
again reloads the page. Stat tiles say "Couldn't load" in the prose face.
- Auto-retrying errors no longer say "Retry in a few seconds" next to "Retrying automatically".
- Infra overview: failed source rows drop the repeated "Open the page for details".
- Integrations gets a title; Cloudflare a description.
- Logs: chip values cap at 18ch and ellipsize in their chip instead of collapsing to one letter.
- GCP: an idle service says "idle, still billed" in its Status cell, so the place line fits.
… on mobile
ClickedReload skips a read that already failed, so the strip's Try again did nothing for the
facets failure; it retries Facets again (the cards under it keep auto-retrying). The GCP Status
cell is hidden below md, so the idle billing note also rides on the sub-line there.
…s, aligned log chips
- Every filter rail goes quiet (no retry link) when its page's main panel shows the same failure:
Replays, Agent Sessions, Releases, Web Analytics, Containers, Kubernetes, Cloudflare zone.
- Services, Traces and Logs main error panels get Try again (Reload refreshes a failed read).
- Errors: the exception type never truncates on wide rows, only the detail; Service column fits.
- Logs: every row's chips end on one right edge (rows without a trace link kept a narrower slot).
🟢 Confidence 8/10 · likely safe to merge
One confirmed regression in the overview metric card's retry; the new errorState option has a test but no call-site test. 1 warning −1 · tests partial −1 · risk low
A UI pass over the web app: list error states gain a Try again, the filter rail collapses to one quiet line when the main panel shows the same failure, and log/error row widths are retuned. Safe to merge after the overview metric card keeps a usable retry.
errorState gains hidesRetryButton and drops the trailing "Retry in a few seconds." under auto-retry
Filter rails pass the main panel's failure and go quiet when it matches
Logs, services and traces list failures now offer ClickedReload
Log row chips and trace slots get fixed widths
Findings
🟠 Warning · F1 · Quiet metric card hides the only retry for its own read
The page strip's Try again is ClickedRetry({ target: "Facets" }), which forgets and re-requests only the facets slot (page/overview/update.ts:416), while this card's failure comes from overviewSeries/logSeries. When a warehouse outage fails both reads with the same body, the card matches pageFailureKeys and now draws no button, so once the shared budget's 6 auto-retry probes are spent (ui/auto-retry-budget.ts:6) the card sits on "Retrying automatically…" with no manual retry until a reload.
Drop `hidesRetryButton: true` here so the card keeps its own `ClickedRetry({ target: retry })` button, or make the page strip retry every failed slot instead of only `Facets`.

Quiet metric card hides the only retry for its own read
The page strip's Try again is `ClickedRetry({ target: "Facets" })`, which forgets and re-requests only the `facets` slot (`page/overview/update.ts:416`), while this card's failure comes from `overviewSeries`/`logSeries`. When a warehouse outage fails both reads with the same body, the card matches `pageFailureKeys` and now draws no button, so once the shared budget's 6 auto-retry probes are spent (`ui/auto-retry-budget.ts:6`) the card sits on "Retrying automatically…" with no manual retry until a reload.
Suggested fix: Drop `hidesRetryButton: true` here so the card keeps its own `ClickedRetry({ target: retry })` button, or make the page strip retry every failed slot instead of only `Facets`.

Page views now pass additional failure context or retry actions to error views. The overview page adds a retry action for failed page reads. GCP service status text and error-hub and log-row layouts also change.
Filter views pass related page-data failures to the sidebar error view. Analytics passes a breakdown failure only when breakdown cards are shown. The sidebar hides its retry button when the main failure matches the displayed failure. The sidebar test fixture sets retryability explicitly and checks that the quiet status line has no button.
List error retry actions apps/web/src/page/logs/list/view.ts, apps/web/src/page/services/list/view.ts, apps/web/src/page/traces/list/view-table.ts
Logs, services, and traces error views now receive a reload action.
The overview failure strip dispatches ClickedRetryPage. The update handler clears selected read failures, retries reads and facets, and ticks the setup poll when setup services have failed. Tests cover retries for the overview series, anomaly counts, health snapshot, and setup checklist.

Summary
GCP idle service status apps/web/src/page/infra-integrations/gcp/list/view-tables.ts
Zero-request services covered by the idle rule show “idle, still billed”; other services continue to show “no traffic.” The billing note is limited to below the md breakpoint.
Error-hub and log-row layouts apps/web/src/page/errors/hub/view-row.ts, apps/web/src/ui/logs/log-row.ts
Error-hub rows allocate more width to service and issue details. Log rows constrain chip widths, reserve an invisible trace-action slot when no trace ID exists, and adjust message and chip widths.

… the page
Quiet cards under the strip draw no retry button, and the strip only re-asked the facets read, so
a card whose auto-retry ran out had no way back. ClickedRetryPage forgets every failed card read
and re-syncs, then retries the facets.
🟢 Confidence 8/10 · likely safe to merge
The strip's retry silently stops covering the failed health snapshot, and none of the rail's new hidden-retry cases has a test. 1 warning −1 · tests partial −1 · risk medium
Each list page's filter rail now defers to the main panel's failure and defers its retry, the lists without one gain Try again, and error rows, log chips and the GCP idle note get layout fixes. One regression: the overview strip's retry no longer re-reads a failed health snapshot.
filterSidebarError hides the rail's retry when the main panel shows the same failure
ClickedRetryPage re-reads the overview's failed card slots, then refreshes facets
Services, traces and logs error states now offer ClickedReload as Try again
Log rows reserve the trace-link slot; error rows widen the exception title to 75%
Findings
🟠 Warning · F2 · Strip's Try again no longer re-reads a failed health snapshot
The strip's retry used to be ClickedReload, whose ResolveClock runs sync(model, context, "Refresh") and so revalidated every slot, snapshot included. retryPage forgets usage, overviewSeries, logSeries and refinement but not snapshot, and the health list's own failure state draws no Try again (view-health.ts:224). After one warehouse outage that fails both reads, the strip's Try again recovers the metric cards and leaves the service health list stuck on its error.

Strip's Try again no longer re-reads a failed health `snapshot`
The strip's retry used to be `ClickedReload`, whose `ResolveClock` runs `sync(model, context, "Refresh")` and so revalidated every slot, `snapshot` included. `retryPage` forgets `usage`, `overviewSeries`, `logSeries` and `refinement` but not `snapshot`, and the health list's own failure state draws no Try again (`view-health.ts:224`). After one warehouse outage that fails both reads, the strip's Try again recovers the metric cards and leaves the service health list stuck on its error.

…eeps its retry
When the setup check and facets fail alike, one strip stands for both, so ClickedRetryPage also
runs the setup card's TickedPoll. Replays passes its list retry to the filter rail, so a facets
failure the list does not share can be retried from the rail.
Outside-diff note from CodeRabbit (replays view-filters.ts): fixed in 4b9e82b. The rail now gets Message.ClickedRetryList(), so a facets failure the list does not share shows Try again.
🟢 Confidence 9/10 · safe to merge retryPage and the replays rail retry read correctly; the remaining anomalies retry gap was already raised on this PR. no findings · tests partial −1 · risk medium
Design pass 4 gives each list page a single retry: the overview strip re-reads every failed read, the replays rail keeps Try again only when the list does not share the failure, and log/error rows are aligned. The three files changed since the last review are correct and safe to merge.
retryPage forgets every failed card slot, re-syncs, then retries facets
The overview strip's Try again also polls a failed setup check
A replays facets failure the list does not share keeps its own Try again
What was checked
retryPage forgets snapshot/usage/overviewSeries/logSeries/refinement, and keyed re-issues each idle slot under Load (update.ts:109)
The new test fails without the setup branch: entered(true).read leaves setup.services a Failure, so TickedPoll emits its resolve (setup-checklist-update.ts:187)
The replays rail retry re-reads facets too: requestAll emits FetchFacets for a matching key (replays/list/update.ts:68)

🟢 Confidence 10/10 · safe to merge
The changed retryPage forgets exactly the slots whose quiet cards hide their own retry, and four scene tests pin each read it re-requests. no findings · tests covered · risk medium
Design pass 4 collapses each list page to one retry: the overview strip's Try again now forgets and re-reads every failed card read, and quiet filter rails drop their duplicate retry button. The two files changed since the last review are retryPage and its tests, and they hold up.
retryPage forgets snapshot, anomalies, usage, series, log volume and refinement, then retries facets
The overview strip's Try again sends ClickedRetryPage instead of ClickedReload
The setup card's poll runs from the same strip retry when its read failed
Quiet filter rails pass hidesRetryButton when the main panel shows the same failure
What was checked
Keyed.forgetFailure leaves an idle slot, so the following Load sync issues the request (data/keyed.ts:77, request at :55)

Cloudflare zone draws the detail read's error only on the traffic tab, and Web Analytics draws
the breakdown error only when its cards render (not the AI tab or the no-sessions setup state).
Elsewhere the rail keeps its inline explanation. The analytics body and rail share one check.
🟢 Confidence 9/10 · safe to merge
The cloudflare rail's guard reads the URL tab where the page reads sectionOf; the retry wiring elsewhere matches each page's own failure UI. 1 note · tests partial −1 · risk medium
Design pass 4 gives each list page one retry: filter rails go quiet where the page draws the same failure, Services/Traces/Logs panels gain "Try again", and the overview strip retries every failed read. Safe to merge; one narrow mismatch remains in the Cloudflare rail.
Filter rails render one quiet "Filters unavailable" line where the page shows the same failure
retryPage forgets every failed overview read, then re-syncs and retries the facets probe
Services, Traces and Logs error panels gain a ClickedReload Try again
showsBreakdownCards is shared by the analytics body and its filter rail
Findings
🔵 Note · F3 · mainFailure reads the URL tab, not the page's sectionOf
The rail decides whether the page draws this failure from the raw ?tab value, while view.ts:190 picks the section with sectionOf(model) (derive.ts:137), which falls back to traffic while the DNS read is loading or when the zone has no DNS analytics (and likewise for a quiet security dataset). On a ?tab=dns/?tab=security URL in that state the traffic pane draws the detail read's errorState and the rail also prints "Filters unavailable" with the same failure — the duplicate this PR removes. Use sectionOf(model) === "traffic" (import it from ./derive) so both read the same section.
// Only the traffic section draws the detail read's error panel; elsewhere the rail must explain it.

`mainFailure` reads the URL tab, not the page's `sectionOf`
The rail decides whether the page draws this failure from the raw `?tab` value, while `view.ts:190` picks the section with `sectionOf(model)` (`derive.ts:137`), which falls back to `traffic` while the DNS read is loading or when the zone has no DNS analytics (and likewise for a quiet security dataset). On a `?tab=dns`/`?tab=security` URL in that state the traffic pane draws the detail read's `errorState` and the rail also prints "Filters unavailable" with the same failure — the duplicate this PR removes. Quiet rail keeps auto-retry but hides the button; MountNetworkAutoRetry shares one budget per retry key (error-state.ts:131-200)
Overview retry tests pin their slot: the base model settles the others (overview.scene.test.ts:129)

🟢 Confidence 9/10 · safe to merge mainFailure now uses the same sectionOf(model) the traffic panel switches on, but the zone guard itself is untested. 1 note · tests partial −1 · risk low
The zone rail now decides whether to stay quiet with sectionOf(model), the same resolver the page body switches on, so a DNS or security tab no longer hides the filters failure. That fixes the last open finding; the rest of the stacked design pass was reviewed earlier.
mainFailure in the Cloudflare zone rail is gated on sectionOf(model) === "traffic"
Findings
🔵 Note · F4 · The zone rail's quiet guard has no test, and it was wrong twice
Whether the rail goes quiet depends on sectionOf(model) agreeing with the tab the body draws, which is exactly what regressed in the two previous heads. zone.scene.test.ts already drives sectionOf, and filter-sidebar.scene.test.ts pins the quiet rail generically, but nothing pins that a DNS or security tab keeps the full rail message. Add a scene test: a failed detail read with tab=dns renders the rail's alert.

Use the effective section when choosing the detail failure for the filter rail.
When a requested DNS or Security tab falls back to Traffic, the page body shows the detail failure. The rail still checks the raw requested tab, so it gets no mainFailure. An identical facets failure then renders as the full inline error with its own Try again button. The PR intends one quiet "Filters unavailable" line with no duplicate retry in this case. Checking sectionOf(model) makes the rail use the same section as the body.

Design pass 4, stacked on #1825 (pass 3). Each pass works through the previous judges' issues, then two independent agents check it blind: one scores a rubric, the other hunts regressions. Icons and data colours are untouched.
Judges
The regression hunt caught two problems in the first build. On Errors, exception type names truncated ("PaymentDeclinedErr…"). On Logs, the rail's retry link went away while the main panel still had no "Try again". Both are fixed, and a recheck confirmed every changed page is better.
Changes
Carried from #1825. Pass 3 merged before its two review fixes landed, so they ride here:
md, the GCP sub-line carries "idle, still billed", because the Status cell is hidden there.
Errors: the exception type never truncates on wide rows; only the muted detail after it gives way. The Service column fits "query-engine".
Logs: every row's attribute chips end on one right edge. Rows without a trace link used to keep a narrower action slot.
