Adds three optional inputs to withBilling() and withShipping(), as array keys or named arguments: phone_verification_method (delivered_code, network, other), phone_was_verification_successful (boolean), and phone_verification_time (RFC 3339 date-time). They describe the most recent verification of the billing or shipping phone number. When input validation is on, the client checks the method value, the boolean type and the time format. The new named arguments go after all existing arguments, so existing positional calls keep working.

The earlier commits prepare and fix shared code:

  • Move the RFC 3339 check into one helper that the event time also uses.
  • Make that check accept any number of fractional second digits, such as 2026-10-01T14:30:00.123456Z. Before, it rejected more than three. The submitted string does not change.
  • With input validation off, skip the existing enum checks (event party and type, shipping delivery_speed, payment method and processor). They built the error message from the value before the validation check, so an object value threw an Error and an array value emitted a warning. The new phone_verification_method check follows the same pattern.
  • With input validation off, skip the ip_address, maxmind_id, minfraud_id and tag checks in ReportTransaction::report() for the same reason. A missing tag or identifier still throws.
  • With input validation off, skip every other check in MaxMind\MinFraud (device, event time, account, email, credit card, order and shopping cart fields), so every field passes through unchanged. With validation on, behavior and messages do not change. session_age, session_id and item_id are still converted for valid types, but other values are no longer converted (before, a non-numeric session_age was sent as 0). With hashEmail, an address that is not a string is sent without hashing.
  • Move the address handling that withBilling() and withShipping() repeated into one private helper. withShipping() keeps only delivery_speed. The public signatures, exception messages and the data sent do not change, so the new inputs are added once, in the helper. One difference: when a shipping request has an invalid delivery_speed and another invalid field at the same time, the client now reports the delivery_speed error first.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Billing and shipping details now support phone verification method, success status, and verification time.
  • Bug Fixes
    • When input validation is disabled, request values generally pass through unchanged; valid session age, session ID, and item ID values are still converted.
    • Non-string email values are sent unchanged, including when email hashing is enabled.
    • Event and phone-verification timestamps accept RFC 3339 fractional seconds with more than three digits.

Walkthrough

Request builders now apply input validation conditionally and preserve non-string values when validation is disabled, with specific identifier conversions retained. Billing and shipping accept phone-verification details, and RFC 3339 date-time validation supports longer fractional seconds.

Invalid dates can pass client-side validation. This is a bounded issue, but the date-time check should be corrected before release if validation is expected to reject those inputs.

DateTime::RFC3339_EXTENDED parses at most three fractional second
digits, so the RFC 3339 check rejected valid values such as
2026-10-01T14:30:00.123456Z. Check only the first three digits. The
submitted string does not change.

The event party and type, shipping delivery_speed, and payment method
and processor checks built the error message from the value before
maybeThrowInvalidInputException checked validateInput. With validation
off, an object value threw an Error and an array value emitted a
conversion warning. Check validateInput first so these values pass
through unchanged, as the other fields do.

The ip_address, maxmind_id, minfraud_id, and tag checks in
ReportTransaction::report() ran before maybeThrowInvalidInputException
checked validateInput. With validation off, an array or object value
caused a type error, a conversion warning, or an error. Check
validateInput first so these values pass through unchanged. A missing
tag or identifier still throws.

The device, event time, account, email, credit card, order, and shopping
cart checks ran before maybeThrowInvalidInputException checked
validateInput. With validation off, a value of an unexpected type
caused a type error, a conversion warning, or an error. Check
validateInput first so every field passes through unchanged.

The session_age, session_id, and item_id conversions now apply only to
the types that are valid for them, so other values are no longer
converted. Email hashing skips an address that is not a string.

withBilling() and withShipping() repeated the same array handling,
validation, and array building for the eleven address fields. Move it
into one private helper. withShipping() keeps only the delivery_speed
handling. The public signatures, exceptions, and the data sent do not
change.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Add the phone_verification_method,
phone_was_verification_successful, and phone_verification_time inputs
to both the /billing and /shipping objects. They describe the most
recent verification of the billing or shipping phone number.

Add them to withBilling() and withShipping() as array keys and as
named arguments. The new arguments go after the existing ones, so
positional calls keep working. With input validation on, the client
checks the method value, the boolean type, and the RFC 3339 time
format.

DateTime::createFromFormat() rolls over out-of-range values, such as
February 30 or hour 25, and reports them only as warnings. The RFC 3339
check tested only for a false return, so it accepted these values. It
now also rejects a parse that has warnings.

@coderabbitai Replies to the other items in your review:

  • Docstring coverage (73.81% vs. 80%): declined. The private validation helpers in MinFraud follow the repo convention of a docblock with only @throws InvalidInputException. The public with*() methods this PR changes keep their full PHPDoc.
  • PHPMD ExcessiveClassLength, ExcessiveClassComplexity, and CouplingBetweenObjects on MinFraud: pre-existing. These apply to the whole class, and they were already over the thresholds on main. PHPMD is not part of this repo's lint setup.
  • PHPMD StaticAccess on \DateTime::createFromFormat(): declined. createFromFormat() and getLastErrors() are static methods in the standard library, and main already used createFromFormat() in the same way.

@oschwald Thanks for the clarification. I withdraw these findings:

  • Docstring coverage: The private validation helpers follow the repository convention. The changed public methods retain their full PHPDoc.
  • PHPMD class metrics: These findings are pre-existing, not regressions introduced by this PR. PHPMD is not part of the repository’s lint setup.
  • PHPMD StaticAccess: Calling the standard-library static methods \DateTime::createFromFormat() and \DateTime::getLastErrors() is appropriate here.

No changes are needed for these findings.

Learning: In maxmind/minfraud-api-php, private validation helpers in the PHP MaxMind\MinFraud class follow the repository convention of PHPDoc containing only throws InvalidInputException. Do not require full descriptive PHPDoc on these private helpers based solely on a docstring coverage threshold. Public with*() methods retain full PHPDoc.
