test(fuzz): one registry of dialects, so every suite fuzzes every dialect - #118
The fuzz suites branched on "clickhouse" | "postgres" by name, and the reference model encoded each database's rules as target-name checks. So a new dialect (SQLite and D1 in #49, MySQL later per #53) would have meant editing every suite, or, more likely, not being fuzzed at all.
Changes
tests/fuzz/dialects/: one FuzzDialect per dialect. It holds the package entry, the fixture context, string rules, ILIKE support, a placeholder check, the literal catalog and the targets. index.ts is the registry, and every suite iterates it.
Semantics per target: NULL ordering, integer division, modulo, what an unmatched LEFT JOIN column holds, empty aggregates, and whether LIKE ignores case. model.ts reads only these and never a target's name. ClickHouse stays two targets (join_use_nulls 0 and 1).
registry.fuzz.test.ts finds every export const …: Dialect in src/ and fails until it has a fuzz entry. A dialect can't land unfuzzed.
LIKE patterns derived from the fixture. Each pattern is a fixture value edited letter by letter (re-cased, _/%, escaped), mixed with the old letter soup. The soup patterns almost never matched a row, so case and escape rules could never change a result. On feat: add SQLite and Cloudflare D1 query dialects #49's SQLite dialect, 6,000 plans passed without noticing that SQLite's LIKE ignores case and has no default escape character. With these patterns it fails within 1,000 plans.
tests/fuzz/README.md covers the suites, how to add a dialect, how to write generators that find bugs, and what to do with a failure.
.github/workflows/fuzz.yml: a nightly soak at FUZZ_SCALE=20 on both CI ClickHouse versions, with manual dispatch.
Property names are unchanged, so existing regressions.ts pins and known-issues.ts entries still apply.
Verification
bun run typecheck: pass.
bun run test: 51 files passed, 10 skipped (no ClickHouse); doc citations, export catalogs and doc examples ok.
Fuzz suites against ClickHouse 26.8.2.7 (Docker) plus PGlite at FUZZ_SCALE=20: 58/58 properties pass, including the new LIKE patterns.
Next
#49 adds dialects/sqlite.ts and dialects/d1.ts on top of this, plus fixes for what they find.
…lect
Each fuzz suite used to branch on "clickhouse" | "postgres" by name, and
the reference model encoded each database's rules as target-name checks.
Adding a dialect meant editing all of them.
Now a dialect is one `FuzzDialect` in tests/fuzz/dialects/: its package
entry, fixture context, string rules, literal catalog and targets. Each
target states its `Semantics` (NULL ordering, integer division, modulo,
unmatched LEFT JOIN columns, empty aggregates, LIKE case), and the model
reads only those. A registry test fails when a `Dialect` in src/ has no
fuzz entry.
LIKE patterns now also come from fixture values edited letter by letter
(re-cased, wildcarded, escaped). The old letter-soup patterns almost
never matched a row, so case and escape rules could not change a
result: fuzzing a SQLite dialect ran 6000 plans without noticing its
LIKE ignores case and has no default escape. With these patterns it
fails in under 1000.
Adds tests/fuzz/README.md (how to add a dialect, writing generators that
find bugs, what to do with a failure) and a nightly 20x soak workflow.

Walkthrough
The fuzz framework now defines registered dialects and target-specific semantics for ClickHouse and Postgres. Fuzz suites use these configurations for plan generation, compilation, execution, and model evaluation. A scheduled and manually dispatched workflow runs the suites.
Changes: Dialect-Driven Fuzzing
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Dialect contracts and implementations tests/fuzz/dialects/types.ts, tests/fuzz/values.ts, tests/fuzz/dialects/clickhouse.ts, tests/fuzz/dialects/postgres.ts, tests/fuzz/dialects/index.ts
Shared types describe dialect capabilities, target semantics, and query outcomes. ClickHouse and Postgres define their literals, execution, and target configuration. Shared value generators replace the dialect-specific literal catalog.
Dialect-aware plan generation and modeling tests/fuzz/build.ts, tests/fuzz/plan.ts, tests/fuzz/model.ts, tests/fuzz/known-issues.ts
Plan building and compilation use the selected dialect’s module. Generators use dialect string rules and ILIKE capability. Model evaluation reads target semantics. The known-issue inputs and target matcher are updated.
Registry-driven suite execution and support tests/fuzz/compile.fuzz.test.ts, tests/fuzz/literals.fuzz.test.ts, tests/fuzz/queries.fuzz.test.ts, tests/fuzz/registry.fuzz.test.ts, tests/fuzz/contexts.ts, tests/fuzz/db.ts, .github/workflows/fuzz.yml, tests/fuzz/README.md
Fuzz suites iterate over registered dialects and available targets. The registry test compares registered dialect names with exported source dialects. The old shared context and database modules are removed. A workflow runs fuzz suites nightly or on dispatch, and the README documents suite execution and failure triage.

Merge Risk: Low · up to e75c3
The fuzz probe can test wildcard matching instead of the intended case behavior. The nightly job also retains an unnecessary token; both changes should be addressed or explicitly accepted before merging.
